In the first of three diocesan workshops this fall, 16 participants gathered at the Catholic Pastoral Centre in Saskatoon Oct. 4 and 5 for an introduction to the Called and Gifted™ discernment process.

The process as explained by the Catherine of Siena Institute website is “designed to help Christians discern the presence of charisms in their lives. Charisms, or spiritual gifts, are special abilities given to all Christians by the Holy Spirit to give them power both to represent Christ and to be a channel of God’s goodness for people. Whether extraordinary or ordinary, all charisms ought to be exercised in the service of God.”

The latest introductory workshop in the diocese of Saskatoon was led by diocesan coordinators Sr. Malou Tibayan, VDMF, and Anne Williams, along with a leadership team of previous participants in the Called and Gifted discernment process.

The introductory workshop is the first step of the process, which will now include follow-up personal interviews, and a “Discernment in Depth” series of sessions that provide a guided experience of discernment of charisms in a small group setting.

Comments from participants and presenters about the latest workshop in the diocese again describe the impact of Called and Gifted.

“God, here I am, ready to be used,” said Chantal Lemay-Becker. “This course is opening my eyes in where I can be the most fruitful. My highest-scored charism is a total surprise!”

It was “an energizing and spiritually-meaningful workshop,” said Celine Manon. “I’m grateful this workshop has enabled me to discern the spiritual gifts (or charisms) God has bestowed on me. Equipped with this knowledge, I can focus my energy on shining God’s light on others in the way best suited to my traits.”

Participant Emily Schira said: “Rich workshop!  It brought alive for me the scripture 2 Timothy 1:6: ‘fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you.’”

Members of the presentation team also said they were spiritually nourished by the process. Leader Donna Dupuis said:  “I really enjoy hearing everyone’s stories, how eager the participants are to learn about their personal charisms. It blesses me to see the range of ages coming to understand and learn about their personal purpose, how the Holy Spirit has gifted them to love and serve His people.”

Leader Brenda Tryhuba said: “For me it is a blessing to see how the Called and Gifted process changes the participants hearts.  Some say they are ‘dragged’ to the workshop and leave with their lives and hearts changed. They were so thankful that they came and are excited to begin discernment: such a joy to see and to experience.”

The Called and Gifted introductory workshop will also be held this fall in two other locations to provide greater opportunity across the diocese to participate in this life-changing process:
