The poignantly beautiful Advent hymn “The Angel Gabriel From Heaven Came” – a Basque carol also known as “Gabriel’s Message” – has been recorded and given an equally powerful visual narrative in a new video release by local singer and Catholic recording artist Catherine Lewans.

The “Gabriel’s Message” video was filmed at St. Paul Co-Cathedral in Saskatoon, said Lewans, expressing appreciation to pastor and rector Fr. Stefano Penna for his support for the project.

“I wanted to use my gifts to create something that would glorify God and bring the honour to Our Lady that she deserves, especially this time of year,” she said of the project.

Based in Saskatoon, Lewans released her debut full-length album “Kickin’ Up Dust” in 2009 which features 13 original songs, touching on topics of heart-break, going against the flow, saying goodbye, love, faith, and her country upbringing.  She received the 2011 SCMA ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’ award. She appeared on the CMT mini-series “Big In A Small Town” where she was selected as one of the top six artists from across Canada to participate. The singer-songwriter is also an actor, appearing in the film “Because of Gracia.”
