Once again high school students were welcomed, inspired and nurtured in their faith during a live-in weekend retreat in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon, facilitated by young adults, and supported by youth ministry leaders, a priest-chaplain, and a large group of dedicated volunteers.
The Search weekend is a “Search for Christian maturity” focused on the saving love of God, and offering inspiration and challenge for continuing the journey beyond a single “mountain-top” experience. Some 34 participants took part in the Nov. 8-10 Search retreat held at E.D. Feehan High School.
Former “Searchers” are among the young adult retreat leaders and other volunteers who return to assist in offering the powerful weekend experience to others, notes diocesan Evangelization and Mission Leader John Hickey, who coordinates the program.
Fr. Gregory Roth, pastor of Saint Anne and Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens parishes in Saskatoon was the priest-chaplain for the event, and presided at the closing Mass, where parents and family members joined youth and the extended Search team.
Before Mass, Search participants were presented with a lighted candle and a hand-made Search cross, rich with symbolism about the Christian journey.
The next Search retreat for Grades 10-12 youth will be held Feb. 21 to 23. Find more information at: saskatoonsearch.ca
