The ministry of decorating the Church honours our sacred space and enhances our liturgical experiences through seasonal planning and decorating of the church. By maintaining the physical interior of the building and creating visual effects, this ministry helps draw us into worship itself.

The ministry of “Arts and Environment” help us to recognize and reflect upon the wonder of the Lord’s real presence in our lives.

Irene Arthurs, a Catholic Women‘s League (CWL) member for over 40 years  has been decorating St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Saskatoon since 1993. Irene’s natural talent for decorating was enhanced by what she learned about decorating a space with plants and floral arrangements while she was working at Dr. Plant in Saskatoon.

Irene was born and raised in Alvena, SK, as part of a large faith-filled family. She learned to work hard at a young age and was taught to always use her talents and abilities to serve the Lord.

Irene has discovered her niche in the ministry of “Arts and Environment,” and spends countless hours decorating our parish church for all the liturgical seasons and for CWL functions, as well as working on the outside grounds in the summer. She also provides a leadership role for other volunteers who help decorate at Easter and Christmas time and other special occasions in the church.
