Treaty 6 was signed 150 years ago by Crown representatives and Cree, Assiniboine and Ojibwe leaders on Aug. 23, 1876 at Fort Carlton SK, and on Sept. 9, 1876 at Fort Pitt, SK. Greetings in the peace of Christ.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Treaty 6, a significant milestone in the history of this land and in the relationships that continue to shape our life together.

As the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon, living and ministering on Treaty 6 Territory, we recognize this anniversary as an important time to remember the enduring significance of Treaty and the responsibilities we share as Treaty people.

For us as a Church, this commemoration also speaks to our continuing journey of truth, healing, and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. It calls us to humility, attentive listening, and a commitment to relationship-building, grounded in respect, justice, and mutual care.

On this 150th anniversary, we offer our prayers and support to the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, leaders, families, and communities of Treaty 6. We are grateful for those who continue to preserve and pass on the teachings, traditions, and spirit of Treaty to future generations.

May Almighty God, our Father and Creator, bless and guide us as we honour the past, strengthen our relationships in the present, and continue together to build hope.
