On May 8, 2025, the annual March for Life to the Saskatchewan Legislative Building was held in Regina, organized by the Saskatchewan Pro-Life Association (SPLA).

Coinciding with the National March for Life on the same day in Ottawa, the provincial event was led by SPLA President Frances Stang, Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Culture of Life State Chair Louis Roth, and Knights of Columbus State Associate Chaplain Fr. Warren Dungen.

Together the SPLA and the Saskatchewan Knights continue to unite to promote the value and dignity of every human life.

The event went a bit differently this year than it has in the past. It is troubling to see the hate and vitriol that some people have toward our message and the unborn. However, knowing that we are doing God’s will keeps us strong and committed. As SPLA President Frances Stang said, we have to pray for those who oppose our message.

I was very pleased to speak to all pro-life advocates who gathered  in front of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina, bringing a message on behalf of the Saskatchewan State Council Knights of Columbus and over 10,000 Brother Knights around the province, and to share with how important that day is to all of us.

As a pro-life organization, the Knights of Columbus stands for our Catholic faith alongside other organizations with a vision and mission to save life. We stand for the first human right which is the right to life. We stand against abortion, against euthanasia and assisted suicide, and against the intentional ending of any human life for a supposed benefit.

We all need to unite and fight all these evil acts. Human life must be defended from its beginning in the womb to its natural end, and we need to recognize that life is a gift of God that guarantees the future of humanity.

Our fundamental human right — the presupposition of every other right — is the right to life itself. We, the members of the Knights of Columbus, stand firmly on the principle that life starts from the moment of conception and is sacred and must be protected until its natural end.

Abortion became the first deep wound in our society: how could people be allowed to kill someone that cannot defend themselves? Legalizing assisted suicide and euthanasia also discriminates against the most vulnerable in our society and can pressure those who need our care to intentionally end their lives.

A letter-writing campaign against euthanasia and assisted suicide will soon be circulated with the help of the Knights of Columbus, with a several options for Knights of Columbus member to get involved. This project, which has been initiated through the Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA), has received the endorsement of the Catholic Bishops of Saskatchewan. We hope and pray that hearts will change, that more people will learn and see what we are fighting for… all pro-life organization must grow together, because this pro-life is becoming the pre-eminent cause of our time. The struggle today between the gospel of life and the culture of death will determine the destiny of humanity in the future, so help us God.

History of the “March for Life”

The March for Life began in Washington, DC as a small demonstration in direct response to the United States Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion (Roe v. Wade). Held annually since 1974, the March for Life in the U.S. has since grown to be the largest pro-life event in the world. This peaceful gathering of hundreds of thousands is a powerful witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time: legalized abortion on demand. In Canada, where all legal restrictions on abortion were removed in 1969, the National March for Life has been held annually in Ottawa since 1989. This year’s national event was also held on May 8, 2025 (LINK). Provincial pro-life events, such as the one held on the same day in Regina, SK,  are also held across the country each year.
