A diocesan adult faith Advent retreat was held Dec. 7, 2024 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, presented by the sisters of the Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity who are serving in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon.
Sr. Malou Tibayan, Sr. Marta Piano, and Sr. Mirasol Abala presented the Enkindle retreat in collaboration with diocesan Adult Faith Coordinator Astrid Alas, with some 40 participants attending the Saturday event, focused on the Word of God.
In prayerfully “breaking open” scriptures about the coming of Christ into the world, the Verbum Dei sisters encouraged retreatants to be “pilgrims” rather than “tourists” — echoing a challenge from Pope Francis in days of preparation for Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope.
“Being a tourist means experiencing something new. Being a pilgrim means becoming something / someone new,” described the retreat leaders.
