Nearly 400 youth, young adults, volunteers, and parents filled the Cathedral of the Holy Family for the highly-anticipated annual United Conference Oct. 26-27, hosted in Saskatoon by FacetoFace Ministries.
The weekend centred around the theme “Faithful” and included four keynote talks by Gabe Dipple, a former long-standing volunteer and friend of the ministry, sharing his testimony of relying on God’s faithfulness when our own faith is not enough amidst the deserts and trials of life.
The worship song “Firm Foundation” by Maverick City Music was the anthem of the weekend, inspiring youth to build their life upon Jesus, the Rock, so that they can withstand the storms of life.
FacetoFace Ministries’ goal is that youth across Western Canada find fulfillment in a life in Christ by fostering encounters with Jesus Chris and inspiring the response of becoming a saint.
The annual United Conference provids a place for youth from various programs and events throughout the year to come together to be united, supported, and challenged in their faith. For many youth participants, United is a chance to reconnect with like-minded Catholic friends made through other FacetoFace programs such as Ignite summer camps, Depths Retreats, or the Anchor program.
Youth from across Western Canada gathered for the two days of fellowship, formation, sacraments, praise and worship, and fun.
Adoration on Saturday evening Oct. 26, offered as an opportunity to come face-to-face with Jesus, continues to be a highlight for many participants.
In addition to the keynote sessions, participants could choose from a variety of relevant Catholic topics for breakout sessions, provided by Fr. Stefano Penna, Matthew Courchene, Logan Weir, Amanda Chan, and Sr. April Mireau, PM. The variety of topics shared with wisdom and authenticity were greatly appreciated by those attending talks.
Catholic organizations across Canada, such as NET Ministries, St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission, EWTN, St. Mary’s University, Newman Theological College and Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College sent representatives to the conference to network with high school students and share what their programs have to offer
Booths were set up in the conference space for the duration of the weekend, providing an opportunity for youth to explore options for living out faith and mission beyond high school.
Bishop Mark Hagemoen was present throughout the United Conference and celebrated mass Sunday morning as all of the conference participants joined the cathedral’s congregation. In addition, the Sisters of the Presentation joined in throughout the Conference, and several diocesan priests attended to hear confessions and connect with the youth community.
