A second live-in weekend Search retreat this ministry year in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon was held Feb. 23-25, with 24 high school students welcomed, inspired and nurtured in their faith by a team that included some 40 young adults who undertook a retreat of their own behind the scenes.
“It was another great event,” said John Hickey, Evangelization and Mission Leader in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon, who coordinates the event with a team of youth leaders and former “Searchers” committed to continuing the evangelizing outreach to youth searching for meaning and connection.
Fr. Daniel Yasinski, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes and co-director of vocations in the diocese, was on hand as a spiritual resource for those experiencing Search for the first time, while Fr. Matthew Ramsay, pastor of Saint Anne Parish in Saskatoon and the Bishop’s Delegate for GSCS Curriculum/Spiritual Direction, assisted with the behind-the-scenes retreat for the 40 young adults assisting with the weekend.
Again held at E.D. Feehan Catholic High School at the end of a week-long school break, the Search retreat concluded with a celebration in which the “Searchers” were given a lighted candle and presented with a hand-made cross rich with the symbolism of their Christian journey.
The Search retreat is peer-based, with “talks given by young adults for young adults,” and focused on the love of God and deepening each participants’ relationship with Jesus Christ.
