Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS) Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting Nov. 1. The annual meeting is where the board selects a chair, vice-chair and trustees to represent the board on a variety of committees. Diane Boyko was re-elected chair of the board. Ron Boechler was re-elected vice-chair.
Fr. Stefano Penna, pastor and rector of St. Paul Co-Cathedral and pastoral associate for the school division, led a prayer and commissioning service for trustees. On this All Saints Day, he spoke of our call to holiness—a universal call to all the baptized.
“It’s an honour to be entrusted to the position of chair by my fellow trustees,” said Boyko. “I look forward to representing our board and the families we serve in this way. An important role of Catholic education is to be examples of Jesus to those we meet—examples of love, inclusion and service.”
With 50 schools and almost 20,000 students, Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools is Saskatchewan’s largest Catholic school division, providing Catholic education from pre-kindergarten through Grade 12 in Saskatoon and area, Biggar, Humboldt, Martensville and Warman. We are rooted in faith, growing in knowledge and reaching out to transform the world.
