By Kateri Gaudet,
The Confraternity of Christian Mothers has been launched at the Trinity parishes of St Philippe-de-Neri at Vonda, Sts. Donatien and Rogatien at Prudhomme and St. Denis at St. Denis, SK, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon.
A Confraternity is a voluntary Catholic association established under Church authority for the promotion of special works of Christian charity or piety.
The goal of this Confraternity of Christian Mothers is “to multiply the graces for which the Christian mothers pray. To this end the hearts of these mothers, united to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, place their vows, cares and prayers together, so as to bring down the blessings from on high upon their children and families.”

Suzanne Denis and I approached Bishop Mark Hagemoen in 2021 about the organization, as the Confraternity is only established under the bishop’s blessing and must be approved to begin in your parish. He was delighted to have this begin and not only offered his blessing but support and encouragement as we go forward.
We officially enrolled in the Confraternity of Christian Mothers on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows on Sept. 15 at St.Philippe-de-Neri in Vonda with pastor Fr. Jean-Baptiste Murhumwa presiding. It was a special celebration. in which we committed ourselves to praying for our children and husbands daily as we prayed the commitment prayer. Mothers enrolled in the Confraternity were given an Our Lady of Sorrows medal as a sign of commitment and confraternity under her protection.
This group is for all Catholic women, affiliated to the Arch Confraternity in Pittsburgh, now branched into Vonda, Prudhomme and St.Denis. We meet on the third week of the month for prayer, fellowship and formation.
