Update from Office of Migration, Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon

Members of a family fleeing the civil war in Tigray continue to deal with difficult conditions in a refugee camp in Sudan, waiting for the time when they can join their sponsors in Saskatoon — but in spite of everything, their resilience shines through.

Alem and her family are living in a tent in a camp in Sudan – their case is approved at the Canadian end, and is now with the overseas Visa office.

Alem was recently in touch with her sponsor in Saskatoon. She reported that there have been five damaging fires in the camp, but Alem and her daughters were not hurt.

Alem has been hard at work making improvements to her tent home. She used the available mud / adobe to build a bed (complete with headboard) and a kitchen cabinet. Recent photos (above) show the family celebrating one of the daughter’s birthdays.
