Newly-arrived clergy gathered recently for a two-day orientation hosted at the Catholic Pastoral Centre in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon.
With an introduction by Bishop Mark Hagemoen about leadership, the Sept. 2-3 orientation included sessions on safeguarding and safe environment policy, diocesan communications, parish governance, conflict resolution, relationships between pastors and pastoral/finance councils, marriage documents, sacramental records, administration and finance.
Other topics explored during the orientation sessions were Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the history of residential schools, youth and school ministry, preaching and celebration of the sacraments in a Western Canadian context, and “Acculturative Stress: Challenges, Identity and Adjustment.”
Welcome at the airport:
Fr. Benjamin Ezekwudo and Fr. John Ezeoruonye of the Archdiocese of Onitsha, Nigeria, arrived at the Saskatoon airport Aug. 18, welcomed by a delegation from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon. Fr. Benjamin is the pastor of parishes at Cudworth, Middle Lake and St. Benedict, while Fr. John is associate pastor of parishes at Humboldt, Pilger and Burr (serving there with pastor Fr. Colin Roy).
