[Catholic Saskatoon News] – Blumenfeld Pilgrimage was held on the Feast of Pentecost Sunday, June 9, 2019 with 150 pilgrims in attendance.
Concelebrating the Eucharist at the historic Church of Saints Peter and Paul were: Fr. Joseph Thazhathemuriyil, VC, pastor at Leader, Lancer, and Liebenthal; Fr. Hoang Nguyen, pastor at Fox Valley, Richmound, and Burstall; Fr. Emmanuel Azike, OP, pastor at Kindersley, Eston, Marengo, and Eatonia; and Fr. Francis Tran of Medicine Hat, AB.
The church and pilgrimage site at Blumenfeld, SK is situated on a prominent ridge with a commanding view of the surrounding serene countryside.
On the 10-acre site are: a two-story, wood-framed Church, St. Peter & Paul, built in 1915; a fieldstone grotto shrine, which features a replica “La Pieta” sculpture, to Our Lady of Sorrows, built in 1936; a cemetery that remains in use; a memorial cairn constructed to commemorate the 50th anniversary; outdoor Stations of the Cross; and hedgerows separating the site from adjoining farm fields.
Today’s community residents regard the property as an important legacy of continuity between generations going right back to the district’s early settlers some five generations ago.
The site at Blumenfeld is open for touring from 2 pm-4 pm on Sundays throughout the summer months.
